Shipping: Ship Finance
Our finance team has extensive experience of the methods by which finance is raised and provided to the maritime and offshore sectors. Members of the finance team act in conjunction with other partners and associates of the Firm in the context of broader project work (such as LNG projects) and have a full understanding of the commercial requirements and practicalities involved.
Our clients include shipowners, offshore contractors, banks and financial institutions and investors in shipping (including German KG houses) as well as their legal representatives worldwide. We advise on the financing of the construction of newbuildings and the acquisition of second-hand tonnage of all types and characteristics, as well as on rig construction and purchase and the conversion and outfitting of floating production, storage and offtake (FPSO) vessels.
Our experience includes advising on, documenting and negotiating transactions from the straightforward bi-lateral loan facility to the more complex syndicated structured asset, corporate and project facilities as well as the provision of Sharia'a compliant Islamic financing for shipping and shipping entities. Amongst the broad variety of financing methods we are familiar with, we provide advice and assistance on loan or lease finance (including long and short term bareboat charter financing) as well as equity and mixed equity and debt finance.
We have advised extensively on guarantee, security and other documentation (including inter-creditor and other co-ordination agreements) and regularly assist owners and banks in connection with the registration of ships, ship mortgages and other security in all of the world's major maritime jurisdictions.
